FACET was an a nine-month long programme of events, presented by VSSL Studio in partnership with Arts Council England, Inspire Lewisham (supporting VSSL to offer paid work to unemployed, local members of our LGBTQIA* communities), Queer Art Projects & Ugly Duck - plus our co-hort of lead artists/duos - designed to centre and elevate queer people and thier artistic practices.
From May 2023 to January 2024, VSSL Studio collaborated with five contemporary LGBTQIA* visual artists to co-produce a series of five exhibitions, exploring the ever-evolving and myriad spectrum of contemporary queer expression. Together we created four exhibitions from lead artists/duos:
Alicia Radage + Benjamin Sebastian, June Lam, Rocio Boliver and Marcin Gawin - as well as a dynamic group exhibition featuring a selction of works from each of the four prior exhibitions.
Each showcase was complimented by a mini-public programme, each differnet from the next, co-curated by VSSL and each lead artist/duo. These public programmes included workshops, artist talks, screening, published texts and performances - all by queer people, for queer people, and about our lived experiences.
